Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, or hCG, is a natural water-based protein hormone that develops in the body of a woman shortly after conception. Often called the pregnancy hormone, hCG levels in urine and blood can be tested and are used to confirm pregnancy. The purpose of the hCG hormone during pregnancy is to encourage the production of progesterone, which aids in thickening the lining of the uterus to give the fetus a safe place to grow. The development of the hCG hormone during pregnancy also helps to prevent the body from rejecting the new tissue. hCG also ensures that the developing fetus has all of the nutrients it needs to survive and grow by encouraging the body to release excess stores in fat cells.
The function hCG has on the human body in encouraging the release of excess fat storage has been a remarkable breakthrough in weight loss for the seriously overweight. It literally seems to work like a laser, pinpointing and dissolving fat storage so that the cells shrink to normal size, without any side effects common with other weight loss treatments like increased heart rates or nervousness. Several studies have shown that hCG, when injected into male or female patients, encourages the body to preserve lean muscle but burn fat. When combined with a reduced calorie diet and stretching exercises, weight loss might exceed up to a pound a day, and because of the way the hormone works, patients do not experience hunger or loss of energy while on the treatment.
hCG weight loss treatments have allowed seriously overweight and obese patients to achieve a significant amount of weight loss quickly and safely without having to endure the risk, complication, and recovery time of invasive surgery. Complications range from GERD, to infection, to additional surgery and occur with regularity in more invasive weight loss treatment, but hCG is delivered by injection. Often, patients can lose up to 40 pounds or more in the first month of treatment, and the benefits do not diminish with additional treatment cycles. With such significant weight loss, many seriously overweight patients are able to reduce or stop taking medicines for high blood pressure and diabetes.
More importantly, the significant weight loss in the seriously overweight is fat loss, not lean muscle loss, so metabolism is not diminished in the process. Many overweight patients who seek hCG treatment achieve health benefits that extend beyond losing weight; cholesterol levels and blood pressure are often significantly reduced.
Because the results occur more quickly than with traditional methods of diet and exercise, the overweight patient receiving hCG weight loss treatment is motivated to continue exercising and changing lifestyle habits because they are immediately rewarded with visible results. Many overweight patients who have tried different diets and weight loss plans see hCG treatment as a final attempt at preventing invasive surgery. With complications occurring in as many as 1/3 of all weight loss surgery patients, hCG is an effective and safe alternative for the overweight and obese to be able to take control of their health.

What Is Hcg And How Does It Promote Weight Loss?
Sunday, October 31st, 2010Consequences of Littering on the Environment
Sunday, October 31st, 2010If everyone in this world threw garbage and litter indiscriminately wherever they went, the environment as we knew it would soon be in ruins.
Litter in our surroundings is an important environmental issue, which many people overlook. While a majority of people do know that littering is a bad thing, many continue to carelessly scatter their trash around nonetheless.
A host of problems stem from littering, and as a result of some people’s inability to control this habit, the environment has been suffering. Money is also wasted because of it. The government has to employ people to pick up trash, and that means tax money.
Littering can be hazardous to one’s own health as well. Trash in an area attracts vermin and bacteria. Broken glass and other sharp objects are dangerous when they are left lying around in public places.
Litter is harmful to wildlife as well. Plastic can cause animals such as birds to choke, when they mistake it for food. And, even worse, small bits of plastic can accumulate in the stomach of a bird, never digesting or decomposing, to the point where there is no more room for real food and the bird starves to death with a full stomach.
Lastly, but most obviously, litter makes an area look bad. When a large amount of litter can be found in a particular environment, it reflects badly on the people who live there.
Sources of Litter in the Environment
Probably no one is completely innocent of ever littering. And the environment is what is essentially being punished by it. Pedestrians drop garbage in the streets. Motorists throw their trash out of their windows. Trailers, when not properly covered, can have some of their load blown away by the wind. Some households dispose of their garbage improperly and irresponsibly.
Even commercial places of business are guilty of this one. Events which create large amounts of litter can overflow to other neighboring areas, if their organizers don’t plan things right. Construction sites can produce significant amounts of litter, due to improper waste management.
These are just some examples of the sources of litter your our areas.
Misconceptions
There are misconceptions about what constitutes litter. Some people think that if an item is organic (and will “turn into dirt”) it’s alright to throw it anywhere. Banana peels, apple cores, and the like, are just some things that come to mind on this one. But in reality, throwing garbage around, organic or otherwise, is littering. And the environment is adversely affected by it.
Why do people litter? Quite frankly, the main reason is simple laziness.
Our environment can be made much more attractive if people simply use garbage cans properly.
If you have garbage to dispose of, and there’s isn’t a garbage can nearby, then wrap your trash up (in a napkin, plastic, paper bag, etc) and place it in your pocket or carry it with you until you reach a garbage can. Also, make sure that the trash actually goes into the garbage can, and does not fall to the side.
It’s all a simple matter of proper waste disposal, which is vital for our environments and for our ecosystems.
The truth is, we all know about the problem. Now its time to act on it, if you haven’t been. But if you already do have proper and responsible waste disposal habits, remember that you can make a difference by encouraging others to follow your example.
When we dispose of our garbage properly, instead of polluting our environment, it does more than just help our locale to look good – we all feel better about it as well.
Health Savings Accounts
Friday, October 29th, 2010As the owner of an independent health insurance agency and the founder of a website for comparing health insurance providers I often get asked, “What type of health insurance do YOU have?” Of course, no one health insurance company or health insurance plan is right for everyone because everyone has different needs, lives in a different area, etc… but I can certainly feel comfortable telling people that I personally have a Health Savings Account (HSA) and I absolutely love it!Here are 7 reasons why I love my HSA:#1 All Contributions to my HSA are Tax DeductibleEvery single dollar that I contribute into my HSA http://www.easytoinsureme.com/united-health-one.html every year is deductible on the front of my personal 1040 tax return (up to certain annual limits imposed by the IRS – for 2010 the maximum deductible HSA contribution is $3,050 for singles and $6,150 for families with those age 55 or over getting an extra $1,000 allotted maximum contribution amount). This HSA contribution deduction is great because it is an “above the line” deduction meaning that it is deducted before arriving at your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) number. To make this deduction even better there are absolutely no income phaseouts for the HSA contribution deduction so you could be Bill Gates or Warren Buffet and still take the full HSA contribution deduction. The more money you make the more attractive this deduction is to you.#2 The Money in my HSA Grows Tax FreeAll of the money in my Health Savings Account grows tax free as long as I use the money in the account for qualified medical expenses or wait until I am age 65 or older and use it for my retirement. Yes, you heard me right “Tax Free” not just “Tax Deferred” as you may be accustomed to hearing about with a 401K or other similar tax deferred account.#3 I Can Choose any Health Insurance Company I WantAnother reason I love my HSA is that the HSA itself is simply a savings account with some special paperwork so that it receives special treatment from the IRS. The HSA itself is NOT health insurance but is simply the second component of what is commonly thought of as a HSA health insurance plan with the first component being a high deductible health insurance plan (according to the IRS a high deductible health insurance plan is any health plan with a deductible of at least $1,200 for singles and $2,400 for families – so still pretty low minimums). What this means is that many different banks offer Health Savings Accounts and you can choose the bank that you prefer to set up your HSA and then buy your high deductible health insurance plan from any insurance company that you like. You can even purchase a plan from United Healthcare one year and then shop around in year two and switch to a potentially cheaper plan with Humana and then in year three switch to Blue Cross Blue Shield, etc. This ability to constantly comparison shop and not be tied to one particular insurance provider is a great benefit to an HSA (as your actual savings account component of the plan still stays with your original bank).#4 I Pay Very Low Monthly PremiumsThe higher the deductible is on your health insurance plan then the lower your monthly premium payments will be. Since a high deductible health insurance plan is a requirement for opening a Health Savings Account then one of the nice things about the plans is that the monthly premiums are comparatively very low! I would much rather save a large sum of money every month by paying less in premiums each month than paying extra for a very low deductible and co-pays.#5 I Am Firmly In Control of My Health Care DollarsThe beautiful thing about an Health Savings Account as compared to a Flexible Spending Account is that while Flex Spending Accounts require you to use up the money in the account every year all of the money that you contribute to an HSA rolls over from year to year. In fact, as mentioned above, even if you don’t end up using the money in your HSA for medical expenses (a good thing!) then when you reach age 65 you can withdraw the money tax free for your retirement. Most HSA custodians will give you an option to place your HSA money into a savings account, investment account, etc. as the decision is up to you as to where you place your HSA account money.#6 I Can Rest EasyAdmittedly some people simply sleep better at night knowing that they have a very low deductible and low co-pays for things like doctor’s visits and prescriptions and I understand that but I like to think of it like this - After your first year of contributing the maximum to your HSA then unless you use up all of the money with a large unforeseen medical bill then you will have enough money in your HSA for years two and on that even if you have to meet your deductible then as long as your HSA health insurance plan covers all expenses 100% once the deductible is met then you effectively have zero out of pocket costs because you already have the money in your HSA account! Sure, if you start an HSA tomorrow and you have only contributed a couple hundred dollars into the account so far and you get hit with a big medical bill then you will have to come out of pocket for your deductible amount but once you have maxed out your HSA contribution for a year or two then you are essentially home free with potentially no additional out of pocket costs even for large medical bills!#7 HSA Setup is Very EasyIf you can open a savings account then you can open a Health Savings Account just as easily. If you can apply for a regular health insurance plan then you can apply for a high deductible health insurance plan just as easily. Almost every bank has HSA’s available and almost every health insurance company has high deductible health insurance plans available. Setting up an HSA is so easy that I probably took twice as long to write this article as it would take you to apply for both a Health Savings Account at your bank and a high deductible health insurance plan at your health insurance company.
